Secondo Russo: "Bellezze Al Bagno" & Opening Reception: Saturday, February 25, 2012 (7-10pm)
In
"Bellezze Al Bagno" ("Bathing Beauties"), Martina
Secondo Russo paints pin up shots of Italian movie stars from
the 1950's-70's such as Claudia Cardinale, Sofia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida,
and Ornella Muti, combining them with iconic locations such as the Lerici
Castle, the town of Camogli and the typical Ligurian coastlines with it's
stratified cliffs and maritime pine trees. In
"Toy Room", Frank Russo uses his signature bright psychedelic
colors and cartoonish style, to create a series of paintings inspired
by his collection of 1970's-80's action figures. Some of the paintings
depict actual toys from that era, or imaginary toys invented by Russo,
such as the "Skull Mountain" playset. Other pieces draw inspiration
from the vintage toys and cartoon series that left a deep impression on
his young mind. The opening party will be on Saturday February 25th from 7 to 10 pm. Both of the artists will be in attendance. Wine and local delicacies will be served. The
shows will run until April 21, 2012. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Martina
Secondo Russo was born in Genova, Italy but has lived in New
York City since she was four years old. Frank
Russo is a Brooklyn Artist who has been drawing comic books since
the age of nine. In 2003, Martina and Frank opened MF Gallery in NYC's Lower East Side. The Gallery has since relocated to Gowanus, Brooklyn and continues to be in the forefront of NYC's Underground Pop Art scene. In 2009, MF Gallery opened a second location in Genova Italy, where the works of Italian artists are shown alongside artists from around the world. Secondo Russo: "Bellezze Al Bagno" & Vernissage: sabato 25 febbraio, 2012 (h. 19.00/22.00)
In
"Bellezze Al Bagno", Martina Secondo Russo dipinge
le dive del cinema Italiano degli anni 1950-70 come Claudia Cardinale,
Sofia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, e Ornella Muti, in pose "pin up"
con sfondi iconici tipo il castello di Lerici, le case di Camogli e i
tradizionali panorami Liguri caratterizzati anche dai tipici scogli stratificati
ed i pini marrittimi. In
"Toy Room" Frank Russo usa i colori psichedelici e
lo stile dei cartoons, per creare una serie di dipinti ispirati dalla
sua collezione di giocattoli degli anni 1970-80. Alcuni quadri ritraggono
pupazzi di quei tempi, o giochi inventati da lui, come la "Skull
Mountain" playset. Altri pezzi invece prendono ispirazione dai giocattoli
e cartoni animati vintage che hanno lasciato una forte impressione nella
sua adolescenza. Gli artisti accoglieranno il pubblico all'inaugurazione, che si terra` sabato 25 febbraio dalle 19,00 alle 22,00. Sara servito un rinfresco. Le

Frank
Russo é un artista di Brooklyn, che disegna i fumetti
fin da quando aveva nove anni. La sua arte unisce il suo amore per la
trash culture e la musica veloce, con una grande varieta' di stili e forme,
come fumetti, pittura, toys, sculture e costumi. Nel 2003, Martina e Frank hanno aperto MF Gallery nel Lower East Side di New York. La galleria si e` ora trasferita nel quartiere Gowanus di Brooklyn, e continua a esporre i migliori artisti nel mondo del "Lowbrow" / "Pop Surrealism". Nel 2009, MF Gallery ha inaugurato una succursale genovese dove si espongono lavori contemporanei sia italiani che di tutto il mondo, e dover anche ospitata una collezione semi-permante dei migliori artisti.
