"MIDNIGHT MONSTER MELTDOWN"

...A new show of gruesome psychedelic life-size monster sculptures...

Open by appointment from August 4th until September 25th. CALL (917)446-8681 OR EMAILinfo@MFgallery.net

MF Gallery: 213 Bond St. Brooklyn, NY 11217

Imagine if the Carnival Spookhouse culture had never died out... What would be the natural evolution of this type of entertainment? Join Brooklyn Artists Joanna Mulder and Frank Russo as they revisit the Spookshow Era to invoke some of those old school monster feelings.

Both artists are known for their colorful and horrific 2-D artwork in the form of drawings, prints and comic books. For this show, they have embarked on a brand new journey that will take us down the darkest roads of gore, the supernatural, and all things unknown. Witness Frankenstein, larger than life! Stand in awe of the giant blood dripping face, protruding from the wall! Behold the latest incarnation of The Creature From the Black Lagoon! Stumble in fear as you encounter Aliens dripping and oozing in blacklight pus, and look into the eyes of Death Itself! "Midnight Monster Meltdown" provides a visual explosion comparable to being high on LSD, trapped on a roller coaster inside an old time Spook House that never ends... All this and more only at MF Gallery!

Joanna Mulder is a Brooklyn-based artist, whose work mixes dark imagery with bold, bright colors and cartoonish distortions. Her work is immersed in the realms of science fiction, horror, and pulp comic book culture, bringing to life nightmare creatures from the depths of pure imagination with blatant references to the psychedelic, altered states of consciousness, and a twist of sideshow panache. As a full-time illustrator and character designer in NYC, Joanna has honed her skills in 2D work, and over the past decade has created hundreds of characters, for anything ranging from children’s products to animated shorts. Joanna has recently started embracing a new medium to showcase her macabre menagerie, in the form of 3-dimentional sculptural works, making her visions manifest themselves in real space and time.

Frank Russo's art fuses a life-long love for trash culture and fast music with a wide variety of styles and media such as comics, paintings, toys, props and costumes. Aliens, Monsters, Robots, Skeletons, Hideous Beasts, Witches and Grizzly Ghouls are all subjects of his psychedelic brightly colored artworks. One of Frank's most recent projects is a performance art death metal band called DETHRACE. 10 foot tall fiberglass Super Robots play 666 volts of ear- blasting Heavy Metal! Frank designed and built all the costumes, and fronts the band as "Mecronos". Building these Robot costumes, as well collaborating on props for the band GWAR, has inspired Frank to build the new life sized monsters shown in "Midnight Monster Meltdown".

All of the sculptures in "Midnight Monster Meltdown" are for sale, and can also be viewed and purchased online at: http://mfgallery.net/Mulder-Russo/Mulder-Russo.html The show will be on view until September 25th by appointment only.
